BBVA Bancomer logoBBVA Bancomer is a Mexican financial institution. It was founded in 1932 as Banco de Comercio (Bancomer). Since 2000, its main shareholder is Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA).

In 1932 the bank was established in Mexico City and, during the next twenty years, founded thirty four regional banks in the Mexican republic to form the Commercial Banking System. The equity was provided by the businessman Manuel Espinosa Yglesias and American William O. Jenkins. On September 1st, 1982, Banco de Comercio (Bancomer) was nationalized by Jose Lopez Portillo.

In July 2000, changed its name to BBVA Bancomer when Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) has invested $ 1.4 billion through the merger of BBV-Probursa financial group. BBVA Bancomer became the largest financial institution in Mexico in August 2000, when it bought Banca Promex.
