The Banco Nacional de Mexico is owned by Citigroup and based in the Federal District of Mexico. It was established on June 2, 1884 as a result of the merger of two banks: the Nacional Mexicano and Mercantil Mexicano.
In August 2001, the bank became part of Citigroup, the world’s leading financial institution with presence in over 100 countries, retaining its original name.
In November 2001 the branches, products and services of Citibank and Banca Confía were integrated into the technological platform and services of Banamex. The integration allowed Citigroup to offer a wide range of financial services in Mexico as part of the major financial services company in the world with 200 million credit card holders in over 100 countries.
